Just when you think you know a place...
Effective today, parts of 95814 adjacent to 95816 and 95818 have been rezoned by the United States Postal Service (thanks, guys) and are now a new ZIP Code: 95811.
While it's not too uncommon for rural or suburban areas to have their ZIP Codes split, in this instance three of the most densely populated Sacramento ZIP Codes in the urban core are being shuffled around. Many of us have speculated that the addition of the Railyards as an area to be redeveloped is a large part of the reason for the change. With new development on the infill site adjacent to Downtown comes many new mailing addresses.
The USPS has given a succinct explanation for the split: more efficient mail service.
No word yet on when you'll need to search the Sacramento MLS using the new 95811, but the USPS will only honor the old ZIPs through June of 2008. Fortunately that gives me a little extra time to use up business cards before printing new ones.
